Heber City, Utah

We arrived in Heber City, Utah, on October 12th,  staying at the beautiful, five-star, Mountain Valley RV Resort until October 19th. We took a four-wheel drive road into the Wasatch Range and drove forever along the dirt road until we realized we had missed a turn somewhere. The fall colors were beautiful, and we got lost in the scenery. We ended up coming out near Sundance Ski Resort and drove to Bridal Veil Falls on the way back to Heber City. The Falls are right next to  Hwy 189 in Provo Canyon, and fall 600 feet through a double cascade to a wide lacy veil into a small, shallow pool at the bottom. The Falls are very impressive all year long. Click on thumbnail to view images

The next day we hiked the Brighton Lakes Trail, beginning at the top of Cottonwood Canyon from the east end of the Brighton Ski Resort parking lot. The trail is a local favorite, it is 3.5 miles round trip to reach all three lakes without ascending any peaks. The elevation gain is only about 1200 feet. The first lake we reached in just one mile was Lake Mary, it is actually a reservoir, and it is the largest of the three lakes, and has beautiful granite rock formations around it. Shortly after we reached the small Lake Martha, then we gained more elevation and headed into Catherine Pass before we saw Catherine Lake. It is surrounded by peaks and we got some beautiful views of the mountains and Catherine Lake. We walked around the Lake and found ice still floating on the water near the shoreline. Then it was an easy hike back to the parking lot, there was some snow on the trail, and I was happy to have my free-step crampons for my hiking boots. Click on thumbnail to view images
