We left Moab to head north to Heber City, Utah, about a 4 hour drive arriving in plenty of time to enjoy the afternoon sunshine in this beautiful park, Mountain Valley RV Resort, looking across to the Wasatch Mountain Range. Heber City is a bedroom community for Orem, Provo, Park City and Salt Lake City, first settled in 1859 at an elevation of 5,595 feet. The weather was cooler and wetter than normal, however, after all the hiking and sightseeing we had been doing it was nice to get a well deserved rest in this beautiful Park. We did venture into Salt Lake City for shopping and on the way we stopped at Bridal Veil Falls in the Provo Canyon. It is a beautiful double cataract waterfall dropping 607′ into the Provo River.
We also visited the well-known ski resort of Park City, had lunch at the No Name Saloon, and wandered down Main Street. We happened to come across the High West Distillery and Saloon, where we signed up for a tasting tour of their craft whiskeys and spirits. This is Utah’s first distillery since the 1870’s, it’s claim to fame is; it is the only ski-in gastro-distillery in the world. We walked out with two new bottles of their whiskey; High West Whiskey Campfire and the Barreled Manhattan.
On Sunday, May 17th, we went to the Sundance Mountain Resort, located 13 miles NW of Provo, on the slopes of Mount Timpanogos, to have brunch in the Foundry Grille. Alpine skiing began on the site in 1944 as Timp Haven with just a rope tow. Robert Redford purchased the area in 1968 and opened the Sundance Mountain Resort in 1969, named after the role he played in the 1969 film, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. His vision of keeping the balance of nature and art is visible everywhere you go throughout this resort. The brunch was delightful and we filled ourselves to the top with all the delicious food. This is a wonderful destination for skiing, mountain biking and the arts.
