After leaving the Desert Museum, we had some daylight left to go to the Saguaro National Park not far away. It is home to the nations largest cacti, the Saguaro, most fascinating plant of the Sonora Desert. These are large tree-like columnar cacti that develop branches, or arms, as they age, some never grow arms. They are very slow growing but can live to as much as 150-200 years old and grow to be over 70 ft tall. We stopped by the Rincon Mountain Visitor Center and then drove the scenic Bajada Loop Drive on a dirt road. Before the sun set we hiked the Valley View Trail and saw a great view of the Tucson Basin. Bob captured some great shots of the Saguaro cacti silhouetted by the beauty of the magnificent desert sunset.
