On Oct 5 we drove into Nova Scotia to meet Don and Rose McKenzie, friends of Harry’s in Stellarton a small rural town on the north coast. We took the coastal road by choice and that was a mistake as the road was very bumpy and rough the whole way. We camped at Don’s property for two nights off the beaten track in a peaceful farm setting. The horses grazing around us were magnificent and the sunset that evening was one to remember.
The next day Don took the 4 of us up in his twin engine Beechcraft Baron plane for the ride of a lifetime. We left from Trenton Airport and flew across to Pictou Isalnd and hugged the coast for about 60 miles. We saw great views of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island from the air, and we even buzzed our campsite. Harry took a turn at the controls and did a great job flying most of the time. Then Don decided to take us to his daughter’s house who is a wonderful hairdresser and insisted that Pat and I have our hair done. What an unexpected pleasure to get pampered while visiting the locals. Of course Bob felt left out so he got a new do as well. It was Don’s 73rd birthday eve so we took him out for dinner to celebrate with Rose. What a great day!
