On Thursday, Oct 10th we left Baddeck to drive approximately 250 miles to Halifax and stayed in the Woodhaven Campground just outside of Halifax, for four nights. Our first adventure was to explore Peggy’s Cove, a natural and geological marvel. Trees and plants are scarce here, and so is soil, but there are a lot of granite boulders around Peggy’s Cove, left here thousands of years ago by huge masses of retreating glaciers.
The eye catching lighthouse stands proud out on the point where painters and photographers come to capture the timeless beauty of this unique cove. Peggy’s Cove is more than a destination for tourists, it’s a living, working community where families continue to earn their livelihood fishing just like their ancestors did. The fishing boats, nets, and traps make it clear that, for all the changs this community has seen over the years, its traditional charm, character and way of life endure. We happened to arrive at the same time as the tour buses so we were inundated with cruise ship tourists taking their pictures of Peggy’s Cove and then back to the ship.We left also, and went to meet Harry and Pat’s friend Peggy who took us to a little Italian restaurant in Halifax for dinner.
